A honeymoon should be a trip of a lifetime with the person who you love most. It needs to have that special element that you can experience together, bringing you closer and keeping you smiling. East London, a coastal city on the East Cape of South Africa, is one such place. With an average temperature ranging in the low to mid-20s, and beautiful beaches along the warm Indian Ocean, couples can relax and unwind in East London without having to spend as much as other destinations.

One of the significant draws of the East Cape is the game parks, of which there are 12 in total, both national and private. The Addo Elephant National Park is the biggest and oldest of them and is home to 450 elephants as well as lions, leopards, black rhinos and more. There’s also the Mountain Zebra National Park, home to the last herd of Cape mountain zebra.

You can use East London as a base to take safari trips to the game reserves, or for an unforgettable experience, you could stay over in the wild, with the sound of lions to soothe you to sleep. Resort and glamping-style accommodations are available at private parks, such as the Mpongo or Inkwenkwezi Private Game Reserve.

If you prefer a more luxurious option for your honeymoon, East London has several high-class hotels such as the Blue Lagoon, bed and breakfasts and guesthouses. Honeymoon resorts tend to offer plenty of recreational activities, such as dining, well-being treatments and entertainment, so head to one of the larger hotels if you are looking for a more inclusive package or a smaller boutique for a private experience.

The coastlines on the East Cape span 820km in length, so if you like strolling along golden sands with your loved one, East London is a good base. You can also dive and see great white sharks and go whale watching from harbours or on boat trips.

Known as the wild coast, much of the coastline is rugged and untouched, giving it even more of a sense of romance. Popular beaches include the Gonubie Beach, just 20km from the city centre of East London, which received a Blue Flag rating for its quality and cleanliness. If you and your partner are more into surfing than strolling, Nahoon Beach is the place to go.
